Parks
Pennington Park
The park is on 140 acres on Creek Road in Delanco and includes forests, wetlands and meadows. It has more than 3 miles of marked trails for hiking and biking, play areas and picnic pavilions. It permits in-line skating, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and includes wildlife observation blinds, Newton’s Landing trails, a sheltered overlook, drinking fountains, a dog play area and restrooms. The hours are from 7 a.m. to dusk.
Rancocas Creek Canoe Trail
Spanning more than 14 miles, the trail combines a scenic view of the county with outdoor recreation. The area boasts a variety of species, including box turtles, white herons and white-tail deer. Maple, hickory and oak forests are scattered along the trail. Canoeing and kayaking are permitted but restricted to designated trails. Several places rent watercraft along the trail, including in Southampton, Pemberton Township and Browns Mills. The creek can be accessed at Burlington County College in Pemberton Township, Clark’s Canoe Rental on Hanover Street in Pemberton Borough, Birmingham Road in Pemberton Township, Historic Smithville Park’s dam area in Eastampton, and Mill Dam Park off Wall Street in Mount Holly.
Rancocas Pointe Trail
The trail comprises a portion of the proposed 17-mile walking trail for the Rancocas Greenway Project Area.
The trail, which spans half a mile, is near the Rancocas Pointe development in Mount Laurel, winding west from Carlucci’s Waterfront restaurant
Amico Island Park
The park off Norman Avenue in Delran offers scenic views and outdoor recreation between 8 a.m. and dusk. The landscape includes upland forests, freshwater ponds and meadows. The park is home to raptors, songbirds and great blue herons in addition to land inhabitants. More than two miles of the 55-acre park are dedicated to hiking and biking trails. Fishing is also permitted in the Delaware River and the ponds. During winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are permitted on the trails. Picnic areas and portable restrooms are available.
Boundary Creek Natural Resource Area
The park off Creek Road has 34 acres of upland and lowland forests in close proximity to the Rancocas Creek. More than 30 species of birds inhabit the park, including waterfowl, wading birds and ospreys. The park also hosts several species of butterflies and moths in its butterfly and hummingbird garden. Hikers can explore 1.3 miles of marked trails. The park, which is open from 7 a.m. to dusk, also offers wildlife blinds and viewing platforms. Permanent restrooms are available.
